From Incarceration to a Second Chance: Dominique’s Real-Life Cinderella Story

She Stopped Believing in Fairy Tales — Until She Got a Second Chance

Dear Friend,

Like a lot of little girls, I grew up loving the story of Cinderella. I always thought it was the perfect fairy tale because it made me believe that anyone—no matter their background—could rise above their circumstances and find a “happily ever after.”

But nowhere in that story does Cinderella wind up in prison.

So, when I walked through the gates of Perryville, I stopped believing in fairy tales. Incarceration doesn’t just confine your body. It can trap your mind. After a while, you start to believe that dreams aren’t meant for you anymore. Then, something unexpected happened.

Televerde and the Televerde Foundation helped me break through my mental prison. They became my fairy godmother of sorts. But instead of giving me a dress, glass slippers, and a horse-drawn carriage, they helped me rebuild my confidence, gave me skills, and restored my belief that my life could still be something meaningful.

Good news! I was released from prison just a few months ago and will attend the Televerde Foundation’s Once Upon a Second Chance event on Apr. 18 for the very first time—not just as a guest, but as a 2026 Cinderella. I’d love for you to join me.

It would give me the chance to thank you in person because none of this happened on its own. You helped make it possible.

Once Upon a Second Chance celebrates women who are writing a new ending to their story, and I’m honored to be one of them.

Please join me at On Jackson in Phoenix on Apr. 18. Register here.

With gratitude,
